The Bell Jar Big Question

One of the big questions in The Bell Jar is what drives humans to suicide? There are a ton of different things that can drive people to suicide. For instance some one who went through something that was very traumatic such as physical, mental, or sexual abuse may not know how to handle/deal with what happened to them which can lead a person to suicide. Or if some one is very depressed and doesn't get help this could also lead to suicide. In Esther's case she is depressed and this is what leads her to try and commit suicide. Even though it seems like Esther has everything she wants she isn't happy. She is very intelegent  and extremely talented. She went to a really good college, the one that she wanted to go to. Which not everyone who applies for the college they want to go to get accepted. So you would think that she would be happy but she wasn't. She was to depressed to see it as something good. She was very talented when it came to writing however at one point in the book she had sent some of her writings into a college but was not accepted. She should of been in my mind sad about this but again because her depression was so bad she just didn't care. I think that if she was given something for depression and saw a psychologist weekly that she would of been fine and that she wouldn't of reached the point that she did. I think that if she would of had better communication with her family and friends that things would of been easier for her. She really just needed someone that she could talk to about things. I had a hard time understanding how she became so depressed because it seemed to me like things were going in her favor and how she got to the point of suicide has me slightly confused. I would understand why she was depressed and tried to kill herself if she had experienced something traumatic but she didn't. I honestly think that if she had a friend that she could talk to and had a really good relationship with her mom that she never would of got to the point of suicide. I think that its really sad when people get to this point and I do think that its sad that she got to that point. But if she didn't complain about certain things and just accepted certian things I don't she would of got to this point. I think that she was mentally unstable and its sad that her mom didn't realize or that she didn't tell anyone how she was really feeling about things. I have really mixed feelings about this book. Part of me wants to feel sorry for her but then part of me thinks that she just needed to accept things and realize how good she had it.

Sneetches

The book the Sneetches can be viewed as an allegory because just looking at it you see that its about these animals. Some of the Sneethes have stars on their bellies and they think that they are better than any other Sneetches. There are some Sneetches who do not have stars on their bellies and they are jealous of the other Sneetches. Well McMonkey-McBean  comes and he tells the Sneetches with out stars that if they pay him they can use his star machine and it will put a star on their tummies. So they do this. Well the original star Sneetches get upset and McMonkey-McBean  tells them that if they pay him they can use his star off machine and so they do this. Well the sneetches end up going back and forth between the machine but once they're out of money they realize that they don't know who the original star Sneetches were. But the big thing they realize is that they're all the same and enjoy the same. So they all start including one another in everything they do. If you look closer you can see a much deeper meaning to this childrens story. It reminds me a lot of when whites thought that they were better than blacks. So they wouldn't include them in things and by law they couldn't. By making laws saying that blacks couldn't do certain things only reinforced whites to think that they were better. You could look at the Sneetches and say that the ones with the stars are like the white people and the ones with out would be like black people. You could compare McMonkey-McBean   to someone like Martin Luther King jr because McMonkey-McBean  helped make the Sneetches realize that even though they look different they're the same. Martin Luther King jr helped people realize that we're all the same and should be treated the same.

Miss Peregrine's House for Peculiar Children, Big question

I think that one of the big questions in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is, is it worth it to stay young forever. The book deals with staying young forever once Jacob is on the island with the children at Miss Peregrines home.  All of the children that are on the island have gifts I guess you could call them. They all stay young forever. But at times this was not a good thing. Sometimes the kids would get bored and do destructive things. The kids could never see the future. They were not always happy because they knew that almost everyday would be the same. The really had nothing to look forward to. Some good things though because you're young they had energy. They also had someone to take care of them and they didn't have to worry about responsibility.

The rime of the ancient marier

In this poem I think that the theme is about being careful about the choices that you make. If you're not careful then your choice can lead to bad things which can lead to more bad things. Which is like causing a chain reaction. This deals with romance because the spirit lady loves the bird. Well the bird loved the man, but the man was selfish. The man ends up shooting the bird/ which makes the spirit lady extremely upset and she puts a curse on him, for revenge.

Peculiar Children 2

In this part of the book. The little boy is grown up. Jacob works at a store and he hates it. Well one day when he is at work his grandpa calls him saying basically that he is not safe and that the monsters are coming. Jacob told him that he would come over but his grandpa told him not to because its not safe to. Jacob calls his dad to tell him about what is going on and his dad wants to put the grandpa in an old folks home. Jacob doesn't want that though. My favorite character so far is the grandpa but I feel like something bad is going to happen to him.

Peculiar Children

The book starts with a little boy and his grandpa. The little boy talks about how his grandpa was always telling him stories about magical children and monsters. At first the little boy believed his grandpa but then he thinks that his grandpa is lying about it all. So far I really like the book.

Glass Entry 3 3/23/12

I think the main theme of the book is to have control over your life and not to let something like drugs ruin or even control. Once you start something its very hard to stop and slowly every thing just starts to go wrong because you want what ever it is your addicted to so badly that you'll do anything. Even it includes hurting the people that are closest to you. Once you lose control of your life it is so hard to get it back. Thats why you shouldn't start doing something that you know could potentially ruin your life. I'm not that far in my book yet but  just judging by how bad Kristina's addiction is I have a strong feeling that shes going to start falling back into old habits such as having sex just to score. In the what I read today Kristina had gotten home from going to see Robyn and her mom was slightly upset because it was really late. Well Kristina was still messed up from when she was with Robyn. Then she has to take care of her son Hunter. I think that it's kind of a sad situation. I really hope that nothing bad happens to Hunter because shes on drugs or something.

Glass Entry 2 3/21/12

In the pages I read today Kristina decides that she is going to go see her old friend Robyn to get some meth. She has to lie to her mom so that she can take her moms car. That was all that really happened. I think that it’s really interesting to hear her talk about her addiction. I like that she calls it The Monster. It makes a lot of sense though to call it that. Since it’s so addicting and takes over your whole life. I think that it’s sad though that she doesn’t take better care of her son. Although I think that in a way it would be really hard to have the child of the guy that raped you. It’s like a constant reminder. 

Glass Entry 1 3-20-12

I started reading Glass by Ellen Hopkins today. I got to page forty. So far the main girl Kristina has talked about how she got hooked on meth. She refers to it as the monster. The first time she does it she gets hooked. Well she soon feels that its not just a want but a need. She'll do anything to get it. Kristina ends up getting raped by a guy who she is trying to score from and ends up pregnant. She stops for a while but soon she gets back on it. Thats as far as I have gotten. Its really good so far.

Girl Interrupted Entry 3 3/15/12

In the part I read today it talked about how the patients view the people that worked there and how certain ones got treated differently. Also Susanna talked about this other girl who was a patient who they all really liked, even Lisa. So far I think that its a really good book.

Girl Interrupted Entry 2 3/14/12

I read from 68 to 80. In these pages not much happened. The girls were talking about people that they have hooked up with that are other patients. Lisa who thinks that she is in charge of all the patients is trying to show up this other patient who is also named Lisa. Then Susanna talked about how a sentence can be broke to down and can actually mean so much more. Then how when you do this the things stick with you. It was actually really interesting how she broke down the sentence that she did.

Girl Interrupted Entry 1 3/13/12

So far I'm only on page 65. It is a very good book I'm hoping to have it finished by the end of this week because its only 168 pages. So far Susanna has been admitted into a psychiatric ward and has only been there I believe a few months. In the pages I read today Susanna and some of the other girls that are allowed to leave the ward with nurses go to the ice cream place. They're going there because the nurses think that it will help take their minds off of their friend Daisy who had recently killed herself. So far the book is really good and very fast pace.
